La Cuadra (stable): we must always remember that this housed animals, like the donkey called Silversmith, its role all day being to bring water from the nearby village of Pulgarin, his fellow sufferer being a person much loved by all, affectionately known as ‘Grandpa’. A mare, owned by our Uncle Miguel, was also housed in this stable. Today in the bathroom of this apartment we can see the posts in the wall to which the donkey was tethered. In the lounge we can appreciate two niches used by the hens to lay eggs. Within the stable we find a place for storing large jars of oils and smaller jars of olives. My mother has always stored her olives in these jars, as once did my grandmother, this practice continuing today.

The ‘Stable’ apartment comprises an open-plan lounge-diner, with wood-burning stove leading to an American kitchen, complete with all kitchen utensils to make your stay comfortable. There is a bathroom with shower, towels supplied, a bedroom with two single beds, linen supplied and a fitted wardrobe. This apartment is situated inside the very heart of the Cortijo and has no external views, but, as experienced by many of our clients, can be enjoyed both in winter and summer, having a covered porch, surrounded by beautiful plants, some dating back over three generations. Tables and chairs make a delightful place for those who want the perfect spot for reading, painting or for simply passing the hours away, chatting in good company, all typical pastimes in these mountain villages.
